RAMBLES IN THE ROSELAND
Welcome to a walker's paradise! The Roseland offers the visitor an array of circular walks, which can occupy a morning or afternoon or just an hour if your time is short.
The flora and fauna of the Roseland is of interest even to the most amateur naturalist - the mild climate encourages the growth of some unusual plants. If you are a bird watcher, Gull Rock off Nare Head is home to one of the largest seabird breeding colonies on the South Coast of England. A free birdwatchers guide to the area is available.
The Ramblers Association produce a booklet describing circular walks on the Peninsula, and the Falmouth - Fowey Countryside Service produce several leaflets highlighting walks around and about various villages. The latest is a geological trail along Pendower and Carne beaches. These leaflets are available from Post Offices and from nearby Tourist Information Centres in Truro and Falmouth.
Public Transport
The local buses provide wonderful views over the high Cornish hedges. Why not take the bus one way and return along the Coast Path? For bus times and fares contact Western National 01209 719988 or call in at Falmouth Tourist Information Centre.
Boat Trips
One of the best ways to see the Fal Estuary is on a boat trip from The Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne or from St. Mawes. (See Ferry Services page).
Coast & Countryside Events
The Dodman - Fal Estuary Countryside
Service is a partnership working to conserve the coast and countryside for you
to enjoy. The whole of the Roseland Heritage Coast and Fal Estuary are within
its area. The service runs a comprehensive programme of events all year round
ranging from snorkel safaris to wine tasting. Leaflets of events are widely available
from Post Offices etc. on the Roseland. If you would like further information
about the Countryside Service and its work please contact Jeremy Williams on
(01872) 323608.
