IN PURSUIT OF THE PEREGRINE

Tiercel SB Publishing, 1998. 242 pages; numerous colour and black-and-white plates by the author. ISBN 0953200205

Dick Treleaven has watched peregrines on the north Cornish coast for over 47 years. His first book - Peregrine: the Private Life of the Peregrine Falcon - was published in 1977. This new book - In Pursuit of the Peregrine - is full of his latest observations and field notes. The chapters are presented in a diary form with vivid descriptions of the bird and its habitat.

This is the most interesting and readable book on this prince of birds that I have ever read. His chapters on hunting techniques and prey catching are so good that I could feel that I was there on the coast watching the birds myself.

The author has used his own oil paintings and line drawings to illustrate the book, and the most wonderful paintings and drawings they are too! His oil paintings capture the "jizz" of the peregrine and must be some of the best that I have ever seen.

This book is a wonderful, entertaining and authoritative work of art on the peregrine in Cornwall and will appeal to all Trust members.
