The house contains a superb collection of pictures, furniture, porcelain and some antique dolls.
Sir Arthur Sullivan stayed here in 1882 and composed the music for Iolanthe.
The gardens are internationally known and run to fifty acres in total.
They contain over seven hundred different varities of rhododendrons, as well as camellias, blue hydrangeas and specimen conifers.
We especially welcome families. Both dogs and children enjoy free admission to the gardens,
and dogs are allowed off their leads away from the house. Pushchair and disabled access exists on the lower floor of the house.

Information for Visitors with Limited Mobility
Please call in at the Gift Shop (situated in the main car park) and let them know of any particular requirements you may have for your visit.
- Parking - we have disabled parking available just outside the House Entrance. There are also places to park just outside the tea rooms. Please call into the Gift Shop situated in the main car park and they will direct you.
- The Peacock Cafe, Gift and Plant Shop are fully accessible.
- Toilets – we have a unisex disabled toilet.
- House Tours – ramps are available to allow wheelchairs access into the main House. There are seats available in most of the rooms on the tour for those who cannot stand for long periods of time. For those who cannot manage the stairs, we are able to offer access to a DVD of the upstairs part of the tour.
- Gardens - the paths are hard and mostly level but the Gardens are listed and old, so we ask for your understanding that it is not all tarmac! There are gentle slopes on the walk to the American Gardens but wheelchair users with strong arms or motors have said it is worth the effort! There are 2 ramps onto and off the grass on the East Lawn. There are steps around the garden. We have a leaflet at the Gift Shop which shows you where these are.
- Guide Dogs are welcome.
- Wheelchairs – we have one wheelchair available for use. It is advisable to book this ahead of your visit. Please telephone 01208 841 369.

We ask that you do not take them into the Peacock Cafe, but they are welcome in the seated area outside and also in the picnic area. Water bowls are available outside the Gift Shop and the Cafe. The dog poo bin is located at the entrance to the car park. Don't forget to reward your dog with a complimentary dog biscuit from the Gift Shop!
