Welcome to Kiln Cottage
![]() |
This charming and beautifully renovated fisherman’s cottage sleeps four, and is only available to rent in the summer. It’s tucked away up a typically narrow and quiet side street overlooking the harbour in the heart of the picturesque fishing village of Newlyn, which looks out over Mount's Bay (pictured below, with St Michael's Mount). Kiln Cottage makes a great base for discovering Newlyn and Mousehole, the Minack Theatre, St Ives, Land’s End, or any of the pristine beaches of Penwith (like Porthcurno, also pictured). Kiln Cottage will transport you back to simpler times, whilst at the same time offering contemporary comfort and facilities.
Kiln Cottage is big enough for a family, but small enough to be cosy for a couple, with beamed ceilings, an open fire and a woodburner, a well equipped kitchen, light and airy bedrooms and a delightful patio with an impressive giant avocado tree! Newlyn remains the home of Cornwall’s fishing industry, and is at the same time part of a thriving artistic community. Families with children will want to head for the beaches and rock-pools of the surrounding area with body-boards or picnics. Food lovers will be able to choose from the day’s catch from one of our local shops or alternatively can grab a table at one of our good local restaurants. Art lovers will be spoilt for choice too, with the Tate, Penlee House, Newlyn Art Gallery, The Exchange and lots of independent galleries nearby.

Entering Kiln Cottage from the very quiet side street, you will find a welcoming dining room with a wood-burner, opening through into a cosy living area with a romantic open fireplace, comfortable settee and flat screen TV/DVD. Beyond is the well equipped cook’s kitchen which overlooks the private courtyard garden. Kiln Cottage is owned, and has been lovingly restored, by a local boat-builder. He’s a real craftsman, and it shows in the detail of Kiln Cottage wherever you look.
Upstairs via the original cottage staircase two bedrooms beckon with open beams and pine floors. One is a double with sea glimpses and the other a twin (please note the cat in the picture is not included in the let!). The pretty traditional bathroom has a shower over the bath.
Kiln Cottage’s courtyard garden is sheltered and secluded, so if you don’t fancy going out you can enjoy your own crab salad and a glass of chilled pinot noir under the gently swaying parasol of your very own giant avocado tree!
Kiln Cottage retains all of its traditional charm but with the added comfort of a modern home (although if you happen to be over 6ft4” beware of the low beams downstairs!). With a serious nod to sustainable building you will find many original features combined with double-glazing, a contemporary kitchen and water heated by efficient solar panels.
The tiny street in which Kiln Cottage is set is accessible by car (just) for unloading etc... but you park in a close-by public car park (St Peter's Hill) where a weekly ticket costs £24. There is a footpath/passage that cuts through direct to Kiln Cottage... the nimble-footed can get to the car park in about a minute...
