Your perfect Cornish Cottage, conveniently located
Chapel Cottage is a detached 'quintessential' character granite cottage, set in its own grounds in the little hamlet of Crelly. It is the perfect country escape; nestled in farmland and wonderfully tranquil. It is situated in a central rural location conveniently positioned for the outstanding beaches and harbours of south Cornwall, yet tucked away enough to ensure that you experience the true rural idyll. We have lovingly modernised this beautiful early nineteenth century building, retaining many original features and providing a holiday retreat that is light and airy in the spring and summer, cosy in the autumn and winter, and always very comfortable!
Chapel Cottage is approached down a quiet country lane, with very little traffic. There is generous car parking. The front entrance opens into a spacious living area with a beautiful natural slate floor running throughout, which is heated under foot. The sofa is also a sofa-bed which some guests have used to accommodate an additional child (but please note that the bathroom can only be accessed through the main bedroom).
The walls are adorned with original art works which compliment the contemporary feel. There is a small television with Freeview, and a DVD player (complete with a selection of DVDs). Glazed double doors lead you through to the kitchen and dining area, which is enhanced by a wood burning stove to create the true 'country cottage feel', and which makes the cottage a great place for a autumn or spring getaway. We have installed a bespoke handmade 'shaker' style kitchen, complimented by solid oak work surfaces. The kitchen is well equipped with a fridge (with small freezer compartment), microwave, electric cooker and all utensils. A ‘butler’ sink is positioned with a view to the garden and field beyond, so that even washing up by hand can be a pleasure!
Adjacent to the dining room is a doorway through to the double bedroom, which is compact and perfectly formed. The double bed faces French doors leading out onto the garden, the focal point of which is an original contemporary sculpture! The wetroom has toilet, shower and hand-basin and is slated and tiled; it is accessed via a sliding door from the bedroom.
Moving back into the living room, a doorway leads upstairs to a large open-plan artist’s studio. This is an optional space available to any creative person, whether professional or amateur who wishes to use it. However, if you are not that way inclined the room does not compromise or indeed affect your experience in the living space, as it is discreetly tucked away. You'll also find recycling and even composting facilities at Chapel Cottage, to help make your stay as eco-friendly as possible.
We think you’ll find Chapel Cottage a perfect base for exploring South-west Cornwall. There are gems close at hand whichever way you point the car, whether you head south to the Lizard peninsula with its unspoiled coves and working fishing villages, the Helford river with its intimate creeks (why not visit the setting for Daphne Du Maurier’s ‘Frenchman’s Creek’ or have lunch where David Niven spent his honeymoon). Or east for Falmouth and its oysters and famous sailing waters. Head north for the stunning St Ives bay, whether the culture of the Tate, or the fine surf mecca of Gwithian sands… of west for Prussia Cove, Penzance, the Minack and Land’s End.
