The settlement and manor of Galowras is first mentioned in the Doomsday survey of 1086. The name Galowras is derived from the Cornish 'glow' meaning bright and 'red' meaning watercourse. The farm is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and has been in the ownership of the Tregaskes family since 1920. Over the years the family have resisted the pressure to farm intensively and as a result the original field patterns with medieval or prehistoric origins remain.

Scenic Views

Situated in a South-facing valley the 95-acre farm includes ancient woodlands, beautiful wild flower pasture meadows and boasts breathtaking views towards the coast. Traditional farming practices have nurtured wildlife at Galowras and there is an abundance of plant and animal life for visitors to share and enjoy.

Galowras is truly a paradise for walkers, birdwatchers and lovers of nature, and offers a haven for those who simply want to escape to peace and seclusion.

Despite its private and away from it all location Galowras is just 1.75 miles from the busy fishing village of Mevagissey with its many shops, pubs and excellent restaurants. By car The Lost Gardens of Heligan are just 5 minutes from Galowras and the Eden Project is within a half hours drive. There are numerous safe sandy beaches within 3 miles by car. For those that prefer to walk Portmellon cove and the coastal footpath is a short distance down the valley trough the ancient oak woods.
